“Host-age”… Really?

A few days ago the outspoken and brilliant biologist P.Z. Myers let loose a wonderfully irreverent tirade against… well… insane Catholics who are inconsolably upset that a college kid went home with one of their communion wafers. Here’s how the Catholic League sums up the situation:

A University of Central Florida student walked out of Mass with the Host, holding it hostage for several days.

You can find the full story here.

Now we’re not talking about host as in “Do you have a reservation?”… this is host as in, “Open wide and say, ‘Body of Christ.'” The student received death threats and eventually returned the cracker to the church.

Yes! host-age crisis averted… whew…

Anyway, now P.Z. is receiving death threats, too — but what really boggles the mind isn’t that death threats are being issued like Serbian Dinars in the early-90’s, it’s that the Catholics really, honestly appear to think this was a case of Christ-napping… the inanity of religion is boundless…

  1. So what’s worse, keeping the host safe and sound at your house? Or digesting it and shitting it into a filthy septic tank?

  2. Christianity is like Night of the Living Dead, fascinating and fun to watch but i wouldn’t want to live it.
