Fear Mongering, the American Way

Here is an email circulating the nets, and I think it is an excellent example of faulty logic, fear-based politicking, and the kind of religious language that can only be persuasive to the religiously brain-washed…

The email starts with this empty shell of a bio. It is so bloated with non-information that I feel as if I know less about “Jack Wheeler” after reading it than before:

Jack Wheeler is a brilliant man who was the author of Regan’s strategy to break the back of the Soviet Union with the star wars race and expose their inner weakness. For years he wrote a weekly intelligence update that was extremely interesting and well structured and informed. He consults(ed) with several mega corporations on global trends and the future, etc. I think he is in semi-retirement now. He is a true patriot with a no-nonsense approach to everything. He is also a somewhat well known mountain climber and adventurer.

Then we launch into the email proper. I love how the folks who write these tirades always do so in enormous fonts, always bold, and usually with liberal underlining (at least this one isn’t in all caps). I assume the target audience doesn’t have very good eyes. Anyway, here we go:

Written by Dr. Jack Wheeler

The O-man, Barack Hussein Obama, is an eloquently tailored empty suit… No resume, no accomplishments, no experience, no original ideas, no understanding of how the economy works, no understanding of how the world works, no balls, nothing but abstract empty rhetoric devoid of real substance.

Well, at least we have a pretty good idea of the writer’s opinion from the outset, but I can’t figure why “no balls” was not underlined?

This next point is one I’ve been hearing a lot lately. It seems that some folks are upset with Obama because he doesn’t identify more with his “white” side. For some reason it angers people that he calls himself “black”… but then, what would they say if he called himself white or mulatto?

He has no real identity He is half-white, which he rejects.  The rest of him is mostly Arab, which he hides but is disclosed by his non-African Arabic surname and his Arabic first and middle names as a way to triply proclaim his Arabic parentage to people in Kenya .  Only a small part of him is African Black from his Luo grandmother, which he pretends he is exclusively.

Also, I get the idea from the above paragraph that Jack Wheeler thinks people name themselves; how bizarre.

Anyway it is in the next section that things get really weird for me. Apparently (and I have never heard this before) to “earn” the title of African-American, one needs to be descended from American slaves. The writer thinks this is such an important and revelational point, he urges us to “let that sink in”… okay, it’s sunk:

What he isn’t, not a genetic drop of, is ‘African-American,’ the descendant of enslaved Africans brought to America chained in slave ships.  He hasn’t a single ancestor who was a slave. Instead, his Arab ancestors were slave owners. Slave-trading was the main Arab business in East Africa for centuries until the British ended it.

Let that sink in: Obama is not the descendant of slaves, he is the descendant of slave owners. Thus he makes the perfect Liberal Messiah.

How we get from “slave owner” to “perfect Liberal Messiah” is unclear to me, but Jack Wheeler thinks the point is obvious no explanation is necessary. The theological language then starts. From what I can tell, it’s all nonsense, but the fact that the email is circulating so widely seems indicate that it’s resonating with many:

It’s something Hillary doesn’t understand – how some complete neophyte came out of the blue and stole the Dem nomination from her.  Obamamania is beyond politics and reason.  It is a true religious cult, whose adherents reject Christianity yet still believe in Original Sin, transferring it from the evil of being human to the evil of being white.

Thus Obama has become the white liberals’ Christ, offering absolution from the Sin of Being White. There is no reason or logic behind it, no faults or flaws of his can diminish it, no arguments Hillary could make of any kind can be effective against it. The absurdity of Hypocrisy Clothed In Human Flesh being their Savior is all the more cause for liberals to worship him: Credo quia absurdum, I believe it because it is absurd.

Wow… all that mumbo jumbo and then to assert Obama’s candidacy is successful and popular because it is “absurd”…

Well, I’ll tell you what is absurd, that this sort of demagoging actually works. Imagine on Nov. 4 millions of Americans will be voting based on religious fear and racial/ethnic distrust… It is funny and sad to me that people who worship the books of bronze-age desert tribes still think like members of bronze-age desert tribes. Jack Wheeler’s last paragraphs are taken up with some good christian-optimism and an urge to pass his screed along…

Thank heavens that the voting majority of Americans remain Christian and are in no desperate need of a phony savior.

His candidacy is ridiculous and should not be taken seriously by any thinking American.

Pass this on to every thinking American you know!

Well Jack, consider it passed along…

  1. Do we perhaps know the ethnicity of this Wheeler character? I’d love to find that it’s a white person deciding if Obama can be a black man. But what I really find interesting is this. One the one hand “they” want us to ponder if we are ready for a black president but then on the same idea of race, we should distrust him for ignoring his white parts. If he’s got white parts we should be ticked about him not identifying, then seems to reason we don’t need to ponder our readiness for a black man to be president because he isn’t one.

I also find it curious that they want to crucify (pardon the pun) Obama for being the “white liberal’s Christ” (which must be hard considering he refuses to acknowledge his white half) which carries with it the idea that to vote for him would almost be a sin, committing heresy of some sort and a sin against God. But the people who want you to believe in this sin are the only ones voicing the idea of this heresy. Obama’s not going around healing the sick and making the blind men see and he’s not calling himself God…

  2. I had never heard of Dr Jack Wheeler before, I took a quick look at his site and some of his other beliefs.
http://www.tothepointnews.com (the rest of his writings make about as much sense as this one).
Interestingly enough he also thinks McCain is “clinically nuts”. After reading what I could of his “work” I have come to the conclusion that he himself is pretty much nuts. I am going to assume (hope) that people that actually take the time to read that email and pass it along have long made up their mind as to who they are voting for and are just passing this along to people that already share their beliefs.

Long story short, I dont think this kind of fear based politicking works. I would like to think that is b/c people can see through it, however more likely people who would fall for it have long since made up their minds.

I prefer to get my news/facts from objective sources like TV and newspapers. 🙂

  3. Mike, thanks for the link… and yeah, that guy is wacko…

  4. If there’s anything this election cycle has taught me … especially since the introduction of … um … what’s her name? that chic from Alaska? right. Mooselini. anyway, it’s taught me never underestimate the number of racist, hateful, fear-mongering, ignorant, illogical spew-factories there are. who definitely don’t see “America like you and I see America.”
